sub soil drainage

Water damage can be hazardous to the structural integrity of your building it can also be hazardous to your health if left untreated. It is important to identify the cause of any water damage and take the necessary action that is required.

Sub soil drainage is a great addition to protect your household and garden from water damage. It works by capturing water by means of slotted pipe (100mm PVC is best suited as it holds its shape over time). The slotted pipe is then wrapped in Geo fabric ( a drain matting polymer material) this will prevent soil infiltrating and potentially blocking the slotted pipe whilst still allowing water to filter through. Once the slotted pipe and fabric is laid 10mm blue metal is used to fill inside the fabric up to a suitable height (at least 450mm wide x 300mm high as a minimum is recommended). Once filled to the appropriate height the fabric is then wrapped tightly around the blue metal and a small amount of blue metal is placed on top to prevent the fabric unwrapping during the backfilling of soil. Subsoil drainage lines should flow to a stormwater pit, a clear out point may also be installed for future maintenance and any piping not wrapped in blue metal and geo fabric should NOT be slotted.

This is a very labour intensive process and requires sound knowledge and preparation in order to achieve its goal.
